All of the art work and collectibles being sold by Adams-Byrd Fine Art & Antiques have been collected and selected one at a time by the proprietor, an art historian with many years of training and experience in university art history departments, museums, galleries, and historic sites both in the U.S. and abroad. The business has been based in the Washington, D.C. area for many years.  The art and collectibles that we are offering to eBay buyers are special and unique pieces that have been carefully “curated” by us.
This fabulous large hand painted pottery vase has been in our collection for several years.
We do not know where it was made.
When we purchased it, we thought it looked European --- from Italy ?, from Spain ?, from Portugal? …………
It does have an elegant and traditional European look.
It is similar to some other Italian pieces in our collection.
When it was made (or sometime after it was made) a hole was drilled in the side near the base --- for a wire (if it is turned into a lamp).
Because of the hole you can only use it as a vase for dried flowers, silk flowers, branches, etc. (but if you find a slim cylindrical plastic or glass insert/vase, you could put cut flowers in water)  ……….
The pottery is pale gray and much of the design is raised in relief.
The hand painting was done in cobalt blue --- and the lines are in black / gray.
As we downsize our personal collection, this fabulous vase needs a new home – where it will be the eye catching focal point ---- either as a phenomenal vase or as an incredible lamp!
This very large and heavy vase is in excellent used vintage condition.
On the bottom, there are some surface irregularities from when this pottery vase was fired in a kiln – and there is also a small open slit from when it was fired.
If you sit this as a vase or a lamp on a smooth polished surface (wood, marble, etc.) be sure to put something soft under the vase to protect the surface.
You might want to cut a circle of felt the size of the base.
Approximate dimensions:
18 ½” x 6” diameter at the base (it flares out a bit, so the largest diameter is perhaps about 7 ½”)
---- the diameter at the top is about 2 3/8” (1 7/8” opening)

Payment
