Beautiful set of 2 K.N. Skyros handcrafted art pottery plates. Made in Greece. Gorgeous colors and beautiful details. Each plate measures 6 1/2" by 6 1/2". They both have wire hangers on the back, and both are signed. In very nice condition, no chips or cracks. See all pics/close-ups. A wonderful addition to your home or collection!
Skyros is a Greek island in the Aegean Sea. It is the most southernmost island in the Sporades Archipelago. It is steeped in ancient mythology and history. It's history of folk art is known throughout Greece and goes back hundreds of years. The artisans are known for the intricate metalwork, household furniture, embroidery and of course, pottery. The small white square homes that wind along the roads ascend to the pinnacle where a castle area would protect the residents from pirates. The small white houses led to the traditional display of all manner of dishware, bowls and platters on the walls in plain sight. The everyday dishes were not in cupboards but on display as useful art.
