Condition:
Excellent vintage condition.
Glit pottery cylinder vase with Brutalist lava texture, circa 1960s Iceland. Glazed in muted tones of brown, gray and black. Horizontal striations create even more texture to the chunky lava glaze. Impressed "Glit Island Lava" to the underside. Excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs.
The Glit Pottery LLC was founded on June 10, 1958 by Einar Eliasson, a businessman; Pétur Saemundsen, then head of the Federation of Icelandic Industries and Ragnar Kjartansson, sculptor and ceramic artist. Glit was adamantly devoted to utilizing Icelandic clay and ground minerals in production during its first decade of operation—especially hardened lava. This vase is an example of this production and evokes a Brutalist aesthetic.
